When to Push Your Exam

Recently I have gotten asked by many students about how do you know if you should push your exam or not. This is a difficult question because it is a very case by case decision (and difficult for me to give advice unless I have tutored your privately), but here is some general advice that I share.

1) Remember that if you know you will not be ready by the date you picked originally there is no shame in changing the date. When we first start studying it is hard to predict the timeframe me need. This is why it is important to take a pause a few weeks out from your exam and assess your progress.

2) Ask yourself what are you going to use the extra time for? Is there a specific topic that you want to make sure you to have to review? Do you plan to use it to get through all the Inman questions? You need to have a plan because just "studying" for 2 extra weeks doesn't mean much. We could all study for this exam forever!

3) Similar to #2 you also want to make sure that you are progressing week to week. How your practice question/exam scores? How are you feeling? If you are progressing at a rate that would not allow you to clear my recommended scores on your practice questions (75% + for CDR, 80+ Pocket Prep and 90+ for Inman), that is a good reason to push your exam back to make sure you have time to clear those recommended threshold. If on the other hand you are not progressing week to week you need to reassess your study plan.

Again it is difficult to give just general advice about this topic, but I hope that it helps anyone asking themselves if you should push your exam. Remember at the end of the day you don't want to walk into this exam if you are not ready and have to wait 45 days and spend another $200. Always happy to chat 1:1 in a study assessment too (fill out a contact form)! Don't forget to watch my free RD Prep Class to help you get organized! :)
