Welcome Intern Mia!

I'm so excited to be welcoming an intern to my team for the summer! Mia will be helping me with many projects for both my tutoring and private practice! Let's get to know Mia!

Where are you in your studies?

"I am a rising senior in the Boston University nutrition and dietetics undergraduate program, with a minor in psychology."

Why did you want to become a dietitian?

"I have always been fascinated by nutrition; food is medicine for both the body and the mind and as they interact together. In 2017 when the documentary Andy Murray: Resurfacing was released, when he won Wimbledon, I was blown away when Murray discussed consuming 50 pieces of sushi as a meal in order to gain enough fuel to play tennis! This was a first insight into the notion that what we eat is and should be driven by much more than ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes.’ Food permeates into many aspects of our lives. Diet is influenced by religion/ethnicity, upbringing, physical needs and mental self-perception and mood. When I heard Murray speak I realized I could support people to do what they love through the power of nutrition. Later, when I worked as a volunteer for the Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis charity that educates individuals with Multiple Sclerosis on MNT, I realized that not only could I assist individuals, such as athletes, but nutrition could prevent the onset and help to combat chronic disease. Nutrition is essential to our health; it can be harmful, beneficial and extremely beautiful with the amazing different colors, shapes and flavors of food. These are the reasons that I hope to be a dietitian."

What is your dietitian dream job?

"My dream job is to be a clinical dietitian either in the field of oncology or to support individuals with neurological disorders. I also hope to contribute to the incredible body of ongoing nutritional research."

What are you looking forward to most working with me as an intern?

"This summer I am excited to gain insight into what it means to be a real dietitian and to explore how MNT can be used in action to support patients!"

During my undergrad studies I also interned with a private practice dietitian so I am thrived to be able to offer this experience to a student. Providing mentorship to dietetics students is so important and it can often be difficult to find these opportunities!
