Weekly Updates 4/3

One of the most common questions I get as a registered dietitian exam tutor is "When should I schedule my exam?" A lot of people think that they should just grab the first date after they graduate from their dietetic internship to "just get it done" or they schedule it for 4 weeks from the DI completion date without thinking if this is the good amount of time. Before schedule your dietitian exam there are 3 questions that you need to ask yourself: 1) How much have you prepared before this moment in time?

  • Did your internship and schooling give your a solid base knowledge on the exam topics?

  • Has you previously bee reading Inman or doing practice questions?

  • Did your DI give your real world experience that will allow you to answer situational questions?

2) What will your schedule be like over the next few weeks?

  • Are you starting to work right away?

  • Did you want to go on vacation to celebrate being done?

  • Are you feeling burnt out and need a break from learning/studying?

3) How many topics on the exam do you know that you struggle with?

  • Has math always been difficult for you?

  • Do you have testing anxiety?

  • Do you feel prepared for the clinical questions?

The answers to these questions will be different for everyone so you shouldn't schedule your exam date at a time just because your friend is waiting 3 weeks to the exam or because your DI director told you to take it in 2 weeks after finishing. If you take the exam too soon you are going to end up having to pay another $200 and have to wait 45 days. When in doubt...push it out! Looking for some extra guidance?
