With 4 more weeks in December, I know many of you may be getting nervous about what the January 1 exam changes mean for you whether your exam is currently scheduled for January or if you have been think about pushing your exam from December to January.
These changes are something what you should all be aware of but should not worry to much over. I highly recommend checking out the official CDR website yourself to review them yourself, but I have also made a free course on the changes that will also be a good resource. The biggest change on the new exam is that the percentage of Domain 2 is increasing from 40-45%. Whether you are taking the 2021 or 2022 exam, my goal is that my students are prepared for domain 2 whether it is 40% or 45%. Either way, domain 2 has always been the largest section of the exam.
It can be a very difficult section because not only does it have all the MNT, but it also had Nutrition Labs medications, Nutrition Care Process (ADIME and PES), nutrition screening and surveillance systems, community program! Additionally, for many of you your clinical experiences were cut short because of COVID so you many lack the amount of real-world experience that students in previous years have had. If you know Domain 2 is a trouble area for you be sure to take your time in this section. When it comes to MNT don’t forget to study your anatomy and physiology as understanding the body system is key to understanding how to treat disruptions. PES statements can also be a tricky topic so be sure to practice making them often, even if it is for yourself! (For example, excessive caffeine consumption due to inadequate as evidence by Dana being on her third cup of coffee!) For community programs and screening and surveillance systems these are a great topic to make a study sheet on. Having all the information on these topics right on the same page helps to decrease confusion. If getting through this section leaves you dragging, check out my Domain 2 offerings! Domain 2 is my favorite domain as I is what I do everyday as a clinical RD! If you need some extra support, be sure to check out my Domain 2 recorded courses, including my Domain 2 Bundle or MNT Bundle, live classes (medications is 12/8), homework assignments and my 31-page MNT guide that cover these topics.
Looking for a review of all the domains, but on your schedule? Check out my Self-Paced Course. It includes 4 general review classes on each domain, homework assignments, study guides and 6 extra recorded courses. Looking for some 1:1 time, options for 30 minute weekly check-ons are available to add on to the Self-Paced Course.
Please do not let the exam changing cause you to rush your exam. In the end it will be so much better to give yourself extra time to prepare than to go into the exam knowing that you have not covered as much material as you wanted to. And as always don’t hesitate to reach out for help!
