Favorite Resources for Oncology Dietitians

For any dietitian who enjoys clinical, outpatient counseling and nutrition support, I would recommend working in the oncology setting. This is a population I started working with as an inpatient dietitian and continue to work with in both my private practice and at Dana Farber.

For dietitians who want to work in oncology, there often isn't much oncology specific training we receive in your dietetic internships so it can be a bit of a learning curve when starting to work in oncology. Being the only dietitian in my oncology clinic here are some resources that I have found to be helpful to my practice!

I wish I had joined this group much earlier in my career because it has been such a great resource! Each day there is a discussion board email that goals out where you can see questions other oncology dietitians are asking and responses from other oncology dietitians. The membership also includes many live and recorded webinars covering a variety of topics. All of these lectures are very well done.

Karen Collins Newsletter: https://karencollinsnutrition.com/

Karen Collins has an amazing newsletter where she breaks down oncology research studies. This is such a great resources to help you to really understand the research.

Nutritional Oncology: Nutrition in Cancer Prevention, Treatment, and Survivorship

This is a text book that I often use as a reference for my more fact based questions. I bought it through ASPEN, but you can also get it on Amazon.

Other Dietitians:

This one is obvious, but if your center doesn't have other dietitians be sure to reach out to connect with more experienced dietitians (I'm always happy to connect too). It is so helpful to be able to text/email another oncology RD for quick questions.

As I find more resources that are helpful to my practice I will update this list, but don't hesitate to reach out if you have a question or a resource that I should add!
