Did you know that you can retake your exam in less than 45 days?

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

That is RIGHT! If you have failed the RD exam and are currently employed as a dietitian you can request CDR to make an exception and allow you to take the exam in less than 45 days.

I highly recommend this for my students who are getting a 22-24 on their last exam because you so close and a lot of the time waiting the 45 days does more harm than good because it can be really difficult to keep studying for 6 more weeks! The correct timeframe to retake is very individual so schedule a study assessment with me for customized recommendations.

So what do you need to do:

  1. Inform your employer that you failed the exam and ask them to provide documentation on your behalf to request a waiver

  2. Fill out this sample template below and have them sign it

3. Email this letter to CDR with your request to retake the exam in <45 days4. If approved by CDR, Pearson Vue will contact you

4. Reschedule your exam

5. Sign up for tutoring to cover trouble areas

6. Crush your exam!

Sample Letter Template :

To whom it may concern,

We are writing to request a waiver so our current employee, Name, can re-take the Registered Dietitian Exam within 45 days.

Our facility has previously set a 90-day policy for all licensed professionals to obtain their credentials to practice and retain employment. With that in mind, (employee name) has taken her exam on (date of previous exam) however, was not able to pass with these attempt. We then gained permission to allow (employee name) an additional 30 days to obtain her licensure, which will be before or on 1/26/2023.

(Employee Name) currently works as a clinical dietitian in our facility using her state-issued provisional license, and I have been cosigned her documentation, which have attested to her work being accurate. In addition, it would benefit our team and patient care greatly for (employee Name) to pass this exam and be fully licensed to practice sooner rather than waiting for another 45 days.

Thank you for your consideration. Should you have any questions/concerns, please contact me at (lead dietitian or managers contact information)

Sincerely,
