Happy Sunday!
This week I want to chat about my favorite resources to study for the exam. As you all know, this exam can get very expensive very quickly and there are always many things you can purchase. You need to focus on what resources work best for you.
#1: Jean Inman: This is a great reference text. It is not the end all be all, but it is the standard study guide. I always tell me students to use this, but not be afraid to branch out to google or a class if you leave a section of the Jean Inman and still feel like you don't understand the topics. If you are a visual learner you will need to branch out! Don't discount the Jean Inman questions. They are the "easiest" of the exam practice questions, but they still cover relevant materials. You do not need to buy the lastest version, but be sure if you have an older version you know of the more recent changes/additions.
#2 Medical Pocket Prep: This will be the best money you will spend on your exam. It is convenient and has AMAZING explanations for each question. I also love that it allows you to customize each exam and shows you metrics. Don't forget that a 10 question quiz is not a helpful metric. With my students I like them to do 50-100 questions off pocket prep a few days a weeks as this is a better measure of their knowledge.
#3 Google: First off it is free and we aren't the only profession that is studying these topics. One thing to keep in mind is just to be mindful of the sources you look at to make sure you are getting correct information. I'm always happy to help you find a resources.
If you do purchase classes/recording/tutoring, make sure that they come with the resources you need and that the tutor's style fit's your learning style. MNT Study Guide
If you struggle with studying MNT, this new resource is for you! My $20, 31 page MNT study guide on all disease states is now available! This study guide breaks down each disease state into the following categories: disease definition, nutrition concerns for that disease, MNT, test/labs/procedures for the disease and notes (aka any additional tidbits from me!). I made this because I found that many of my one-on-one students were hyperfocusing on MNT topics without first having a working knowledge of all of the disease states. A MNT course bundle is also available purchase for $100 (save $20 with the bundle) for 3 weeks of course access or $140 for 6 weeks of access. Click here to view a sample of the study guide and purchase the study guide.
