3 Post- Thanksgiving Nutrition Tips

If you are rolling into today thinking...oh I really enjoyed Thanksgiving, but I'm ready to get back on track, here are 3 tips to help you keep your nutrition and health a priority post-Thanksgiving!

1) FOOD SAFETY: Yes, we of course want to continue to enjoy all of those delicious leftovers, but we need to keep food safety in mind to decrease risk of food poisonings. According to the CDC leftovers should be eaten in 3-4 days. If you aren't going to finish them by 4 days be sure to freeze your extra leftovers.

2) DESSERTS: While desserts are delicious and we of course want to make sure we give them all a try on the holiday, they are also a big source of empty calories and something we tend we be left with a lot extra after a holiday meal. When it comes to extra desserts once you are done trying them don't be afraid to just throw them away! I promise no one is going to be offended if you throw extra Thanksgiving treats out after the festivities are over. (Of course don't forget to sample a bit of each before!)

3) BALANCE: Thanksgiving dishes do tend to be very carbohydrate heavy so when you are making yourself a meal of leftovers don't forget to add some protein and vegetables. When it comes to portion sizes you want to keep carbs (rice, potatoes, stuffing, bread) to about a quarter of your place, fill up half with your favorite vegetable and save the last quarter for a protein (turkey, beans, tofu, beef, etc).

Enjoying the holiday season doesn't mean that your diet haves to be off track days after thanksgiving! When it comes to good nutrition, the goal is to find a sustainable balance that works best for you! (and most likely this isn't going to be keto!)
